Don Noyes - Whimsical Carvings - The Artisans Tent at Zoar Ohio

Don Noyes - Whimsical Hand Carved Birds

Folk art of the Pennsylvania Germans has always fascinated me. Bird carvings and bird trees always made me smile. The colors and whimsical nature of the carvings really talked to me.  My first exposure to Pennsylvania German folk art came in 1991. My wife and I would travel several times a year to Pennsylvania to buy antiques. In the process we became aquainted with many dealers who shared their knowledge and collections with us. It was always the folk art carvings that interested us the most. I knew that someday I would like to try my hand at creating some bird carvings.

Greg and Mary Shooner - Redware

Continuing the traditions of American potters dating to 1630, Greg Shooner and Mary Spellmire-Shooner re-create authentic redware pottery at their Oregonia, Ohio studio. Greg and Mary use their years of pottery experience to make a ware that is unrivaled in its interpretation of rare antiques. They work alone, with a passionate commitment to quality and artistic control. A lifelong interest in art led them separately to pottery , then together to the study of redware.

Peggy Taylor - Loom Hall Fiber Arts

Peggy Taylor - Handwoven Textiles

Peggy Taylor creates handwoven textiles in the early manner, inspired by those of the 18th century, using wool, linen, and cotton and historic weaving drafts. She researches historic textiles and weaves on looms similar to those in use 200 years ago in this country. Her business name, Loom Hall, comes from the ancestral home of her paternal family in England, where they were weavers in the 1500's. She and her husband raise Shetland sheep on the family farm in Indiana.  For the past several years, she has been honored to be selected for the Early American Life magazine's Directory of American Craftsmen.

Anne Childs - Zoar Festival - The Artisans Tent at Zoar Ohio

Anne Childs - Watercolors

Living in an 1890's log home that she and her husband, John, have lovingly filled with early American antiques, Anne enjoys her connection with the past. She paints in watercolor and gets her inspiration from early artists such as Jacob Maentel, Rufus Porter and W.M. Prior. Also inspired by frakturs, theorems, needlework samplers, and all manner of naive art (circa 1840), Anne creates images of bygone days. By using old paper for all her paintings and by mounting every painting in an antique frame, she creates an authentic look that fools the eye into thinking it is seeing the real thing. She paints for the pure joy of it and sincerely hopes that her customers will share in that joy.
